Improving Your Home’s Curb Appeal

4 Tips For Creating A Flowing Outdoor Living Space

You don't have to do all of your living inside of your home. When it is nice outside, why not spend more of your time outdoors? With an outdoor living space, you can do your cooking, relaxing, and even sleeping outside if you want. The key to creating an outdoor living space is to create a space where you can live without having to be enclosed in four walls.

#1 Think About What You Want to Include

The first thing you need to do is think about what type of activities you want to do in your outdoor living space. Do you want to do most of your food prep in your outdoor living space? If so, do you want more than a grill to cook with? Do you want a outside stove, refrigerator, or food storage? If you want your outdoor living space to function as a second kitchen, you are going to want to build an outdoor stove and set-up an outdoor kitchen area that includes counter space and even a small fridge for your food as well. Be sure to include a nice table for eating and enjoying all the great food you'll be cooking outside.

Do you want to be able to relax in your outdoor living space? Do you want to be able to nap or sleep in your outdoor living space? If relaxing is your main goal, go all out. Get a swing for your back porch and a couple of sets of outdoor couches. If you really like to lounge, find some places to hang up a hammock. Focus on creating an outdoor space that is as comfy as possible.

What you want to do with the space will really define how you set up and shape the space, as well as how much square footage you need to make your dreams a reality.

#2 Decide on a Unifying Theme

Second, you are going to want to decide on a unifying them for your outdoor space, just like you have for your indoor space. Do you want to use a particular material throughout your outdoor space? Do you have certain colors you would like to use? Pick colors or materials that you can use throughout your outdoor space that will help tie everything together.

#3 Create a Focal Point

Third, since you are creating an outdoor living space, make sure that you have a focal point that will help draw the eye. A view of your garden, a water fixture, or a fire fixture or fire pit could all make a nice focal point for your outdoor living space.

#4 Use Landscaping to Create Privacy

Just because you have an outdoor living space doesn't mean that you want everyone to see into your space. Create a little privacy through the use of careful landscaping; for example, you can put up larger trees and bushes near your outdoor living space, or you can grow ivy on some lattice. Be strategic about where you place your landscaping in order to create some privacy in your outdoor space.
