Improving Your Home’s Curb Appeal

Are You Landscaping Your New Back Yard?

Did you recently move into a pre-owned house that has absolutely nothing in the back yard? Maybe the sellers concentrated on beautifying the front yard so that the house would have greater curb appeal. Or, it may be that you have moved into a brand-new home, and the back yard has grass and maybe one or two trees. Either way, if you have decided that you want to have a beautiful back yard, here are some ideas that might help you to create a back yard that you can enjoy with your friends and family members.

Drive Around Your Town - Consider taking a camera, a piece of paper, and a pencil with you as you drive around different neighborhoods in your town. It may be tempting to just look at fancy neighborhoods, but you might be surprised at the ingenuity that you will find in less elegant yards. As you drive in more expensive areas, you may get the idea to include outdoor statuary in your landscaping. By driving in less elegant areas, you might get the idea to surround some of your planting areas and your trees with attractive borders. If you feel comfortable taking pictures of things you like in other people's front yards, do so. If you would feel more comfortable seeking permission first, go for it. Write down ideas that you want to use in your own landscaping so that you can refer to them later.

Hire Professionals - Perhaps you aren't at all comfortable with planning your own  landscape design. If that is the case, consider hiring landscaping professionals from a company like White Oak Land Management to do the job for you. You might be able to get names of landscapers right at your favorite nursery. By hiring professionals, you may even get a better price on the plants you will purchase. Tell the landscapers how you will be using the back yard. For example, if you want to raise vegetables, the landscapers will incorporate that into the design. Do you want more trees? The landscapers will have the experience to tell you which trees grow best in your area. Consider getting tips on how to maintain the landscaping, too. In addition, think about asking the landscapers to incorporate lighting into the different areas of your back yard. For example, if you have beautiful trees, lighting will give them an even prettier, more dramatic appearance.
