4 Things You Need To Do To Get Your Sprinkler System Ready For Summer

Spring is rapidly wrapping up, and with warmer weather on the rise, you are going to need to start using your sprinkler system soon. Before you start using your sprinkler system, you want to make sure that your system is ready to go.

1. Close All Open Manual Drains

When you got your system ready for winter last year, you should have opened all the manual drains within your system and left them open. This will help ensure that your sprinkler system didn't freeze last fall. However, now that you are ready to use your sprinkler system again, you are going to want to close all the manual drains that you left open. The manual drains need to be closed in order to get the water flowing through your system again.

2. Open the Main Valve Slowly

You should have also turned off the water via the main valve to your sprinkler system. You are going to want to open the main valve slowly; do not just turn it on to full power all the way. Open it slowly and allow water to slowly fill and move into the piping and cross connection. Opening the valve slowly will allow your system to pressurize correctly.

3. Run the System

Next, turn on the system and check one zone of the system at a time. As each zone runs, check and make sure that none of your sprinkler heads are dripping water instead of spraying it.

Make sure that all of the spray patterns are accurate and where they should be. If the spray pattern is off, see if you can move the sprinkler head in order to correct the spray pattern. If the spray pattern is off because the sprinkler head is damaged though, you are going to need to see about fixing the sprinkler head. Take the sprinkler head off and clean out the sprinkler head as well as the nozzle. Then test that zone again and see if the spray pattern is corrected.

4. Set Up a Rain Sensor

If your system does not already have a rain sensor, take the time to install a rain system this spring. A rain sensor goes into the ground and measures moisture levels in the ground. When the rain sensor registers a certain amount of moisture, it will turn off your sprinkler system, ensuring that you are not running your sprinkler when rain is falling from the sky.

Make sure that you spend some time getting your sprinkler system ready, so you are able to use it when you need to as it warms up this summer. Contact a company like Pattie Group, Inc for more information and assistance.
