Building A New Home? Add Home Structure Lighting Now

If you are building a new home, you should add home structure lighting now during the build. This will make it much easier to install for the builder. Below are different types of home structure lighting, as well as the benefits of installing this lighting in your home.

Types of Structure Lighting

One type of structure lighting is valance lighting. This is using valance boards that have an open bottom and an open top. A common place to install valance lighting is above draperies. Because it is open at the top, the valance light is first directed upwards and then bounces off the ceiling to provide extra light in a room. If you want to add more light to the entire room, add valance boards to each window.

Another type to choose from is cornice structure lighting. This type is generally mounted on the ceiling and/or wall. The light fixture is closed at the top so that light flows from the bottom down to lighten the wall. This will highlight wallpaper, pictures you have arranged on the wall, your draperies, and more.

Soffit lighting is another option which is installed above a bathroom or kitchen sink. You can shield the light using frosted glass if you do not want the light to be too bright in the room. The lighting fixture is available in different lengths so it can provide light over the entire sink area.

Recessed lighting is an option for you that is often installed on the ceiling to provide light for an entire room. Install more than one recessed light in a room. The lights are installed so they are flush with the ceiling, so it is best to install these lights when ceilings are being installed in your home. You can also install recessed lighting on the wall to highlight pictures, wallpaper, etc.

Benefits of Structured Lighting

There are many benefits of installing structured lighting in your home. For example, it can be used to light up small areas, such as in a corner of your home or inside a closet. If you have children, you can install lighting in the area where they often do their homework to give them extra light. This will reduce eye strain while they are working.

Structured lighting can also be installed in a basement, as this room is often not lighted well. This is especially beneficial if you use your basement a lot, such as to do laundry or a place for your kids to play. Structured lighting also makes your home safer as you can provide light to any area that you wish.

Talk with the contractor about structured lighting and they can give you much more information, such as the types of bulbs you should use in the different rooms. Reach out to a local lighting service, such as Landscape Lighting Guys, to find out more.
